Deepti Naval is an Indian actress whose remarkable career has spanned five decades. Born as Deepti Priya Naval on 11 November 1944 in Mumbai, she spent much of her early life there. Her father was a renowned singer and her mother was an actress, and the couple ran a drama school. Following in their footsteps, Deepti won numerous accolades for her work as both actress and director, including the National Award for Best Supporting Actress and Special Jury Mention at the Cannes Film Festival for 'Anupama'. Deepti Naval's debut film as an actor was Shyam Benegal's "Anupama" (1968), which also starred her mother, Zarina Wahab. She gained commercial success as a child artist in the film "Phool Aur Patthar", and as a heroine in films such as "Rangeela", "Kati Patang", and "Paheli". In mid-1970s, she shifted from Mumbai to Delhi, where she began directing films. She worked on several films as a director and producer, including the Punjabi film "Aandhiyan". In 2013, Deepti Naval made her acting comeback with Dibakar Banerjee's "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!", which also stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role. The trailer of the film was released on YouTube on 30 September 2013, garnering over three million views in under two days. The film was released on 8 October 2013. Deepti married Major Bharat Singh in the 1960s. Though they separated in the late 1970s, they remained married and were granted a divorce in Delhi in March 1986.
